“I am very impressed with Bruce Rawles’s ability to help me transform our website from the dinosaur age into the 21st century. Bruce was able to combine a variety of features from the main university website and other department/school websites to create a site for the English Department that vastly increases our functionality and improves visitors’ perception of who we are. He blended many features together to craft an elegant, intuitive, easy-to-maintain WordPress site that matches the campus ‘look and feel’ while providing a unique persona in keeping with the needs of faculty, students, and alumni. Bruce researched, identified and implemented plugins ideally suited to our site, did significant CSS customization, optimized the architecture, and provided ongoing training (including custom screen flow video) to ensure that the site will be simple and straightforward to keep up to date. This new responsive design looks great on large monitors, tablets and smart phones. It is easy to navigate and gives viewers a lively experience when they visit. Bruce was also a pleasure to work with. We brainstormed how to achieve our objectives together. His ‘can do’ helpful attitude and quick response were invaluable at each step of the overhaul process, which went very smoothly from concept to when the site went live on July 18, 2014. I could not have achieved our final outcome without his help. I would recommend Bruce’s expertise to anyone needing a customized WordPress website that will serve well for the long haul.”

The Marketing staff at CU Boulder English Dept. had an existing WordPress site that needed a major upgrade. The site required custom sidebar navigation for each section, extensive styling (a generic StudioPress Genesis theme was used as the starting point for its foundation), custom categories (taxonomies) that allowed for category pages for both faculty specialties and specific academic interests (course categories), as well as a versatile calendar/events system showing both upcoming and past events in list, summary and detail page formats. The site needed to be compatible with the overall styling of the main Boulder campus site, and also pull elements and architectural ideas from the Music Department site, such as the out of focus background photo of books, analogous to the music site’s piano keyboard. Here’s a snapshot of the legacy site’s home page; the ‘before’ look:
